PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE    1974    Tuesday, June 17

Brian De Palma’s amazingly over the top cult classic, Todd and Dave are genuinely thrilled to offer this as our opening salvo to a summer of groove!  Quintessential midnight movie masterpiece… shown at dusk!

THE JAYHAWKERS!    1959    Tuesday, June 24

A great 50s Western in luscious Technicolor, JAYHAWKERS sets good guy Fess Parker against megalomaniac bad guy Jeff Chandler in pre Civil War Kansas. Acclaimed by Todd Kimmell as “the #1 Gay Western of the Atomic Age!” Fine performances from at times sexually confused characters and an outstanding score, a Hollywood ‘A’ feature at the Drive-In!

CAVEMAN    1981    Tuesday, July 1

Yes, we’re finally showing CAVEMAN!!!  Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach ugh and grunt their way through this beloved yet admittedly bizarre spoof, with a cast of character actors including Dennis Quaid, Shelley Long and Jack Gilford…  and with stop action dinosaurs aplenty!

ORPHEUS    1950    Tuesday, July 8

Jean Cocteau’s remarkably cool and still awe inspiring rethinking of the Greek tragedy, set in post war France.  Chiseled Jean Marais as Orpheus the poet, beautiful Marie Dea as Eurydice, and the breathtakingly elegant Maria Cesares as Death (eat your heart out, Sade’).  Death’s heralds on vintage motorcycles and majestic special effects… an incomparable masterpiece!

GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933    1933    Tuesday, July 15

Considered the best of the all singing, all dancing genre, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 was the perfect escapist comedy for Depression era audiences.  To heck with Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell and a very young Ginger Rogers, as a kid watching late night TV, I fell hook, line and sinker for saucy comedienne Joan Blondell.  Pre Code, this was considered almost irresponsibly spicy in its day.  Hot diggety!

THE TRIP    1967    Tuesday, July 22

Roger Corman produced it.  Jack Nicholson wrote it.  Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Susan Strasberg and Dennis Hopper star in it, with cameos by all sorts of folks.  Psychedelic special effects galore accompany Fonda’s attempt at a carefully controlled foray into an inner universe where ‘carefully controlled’ just doesn’t work.  You’ll never again hear the words ‘the living room’ in the same way, guaranteed!

THE BOY FRIEND    1971    Tuesday, July 29

Hard to imagine a Ken Russell tribute to early, big budget Hollywood musical spectaculars… starring Twiggy, just post Carnaby Street, no less, but here it is, and a much loved and undeservedly obscure classic it is.

THE LONG, LONG TRAILER    1953    Tuesday, August 5

Come out and bring your vintage trailer, your post war bar-b-que gear, your New Look party dress and your rayon shirt-jac.  The film will be preceded with a slide presentation by Todd Kimmell (yeah, me!), covering 10 years’ mad devotion to the American history of living on wheels.

CAT BALLOU    1965    Tuesday, August 12

Jane Fonda is the vivacious cowgirl and Lee Marvin the drunken ex gunslinger in this wonderful comedy that hasn’t lost an ounce of luster in 43 years.  Marvin won the Oscar for his somewhat less than subtle performance, and Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye are strolling troubadours throughout.  A great film for the whole family.

SEVEN CHANCES    1925    Tuesday, August 19

Silent era super star and all around auteur, Buster Keaton, flying confidently at the top of his form in this, one of his best films of all time.  A must see for Keaton fans, and a great film for everyone, we’re honored to be able to offer this monumental comedy classic as the grand finale to our 2008 season.
